Newbridge Demesne Traditional Farm

Sited to the west and north of Newbridge House and beside the Walled Garden

Traditional Farm

* In 1989/90 the County Council Parks Department undertook an extensive programme of renovation, reconstruction and restoration of the Courtyard, Haggard and adjoining buildings to return it, to its pre 20th century state where a range of farm animals and fowl are now housed.

* Most 18th century farms were virtually independent and self- supporting entities producing Cereals, Milk, Butter, Cheese, Meat and Leather for shoes, while the adjacent kitchen garden provided a very wide range of vegetables and fruit to rival any fruit stall in a supermarket.

The main outbuildings in the courtyard are:

* The Labourer's Cottage
* Workshop Display
* Dairy
* The Rent room
* Tack Room
* Coach House
* Blacksmith's Forge
* Joinery Shop
* Working Horse Stables.

In the Haggard area are:

* Pig sties
* Threshing Barn
* Under cover of the barn is a large range of Farm implements
* The Chicken House
* Slaughter House
* Swill House
* Cow Byre
* The Vinery glasshouse for growing grapes
* Bull Pen.

The paddocks are sectioned off for the various breeds of animals including the Kerry Cattle and Jacob sheep both very old and rare breeds.
