Noise Pollution
Domestic Noise Pollution
Complaints of noise from various sources include: loud music, barking dogs, DIY, burglar alarms and noise from pubs, clubs and factories.
If you have a problem with noise often the best approach is to contact the person responsible and explain that you are being bothered by the noise. In many cases people do not realise they are disturbing anyone and will be more considerate in future.
If you wish to make a complaint about noise we recommend that you keep a record of the noise nuisance. This will show how often the noise is occurring, how it is affecting you and may be used as evidence in any legal action e.g section 108.
If you have a complaint about noise from a Council property or tenant, contact the Housing Department who will look into your complaint.
Commercial Noise Pollution
If you wish to make a complaint about noise from a commercial site we recommend that you keep a record of the noise nuisance. This will show how often the noise is occurring, how it is affecting you and may be used as evidence in any legal action. However, when making a complaint, it helps our investigation if you have a contact name and address of the site/premises at hand so we can deal with the complaint more promptly.
You can download below a noise diary sheet and a section 108 form.
Air Pollution
We can investigate complaints about smells, fumes and dust from premises in Fingal County Council.
Odours and fumes
Odours and fumes generated by industrial premises are usually controlled by having systems in place to deal with the emissions . Problems can be created when unpleasant odours or fumes are released which cause a nuisance to residents in the area. Offensive odours can often be difficult to trace where there are many industrial or commercial premises in an area, such as an industrial estate. However, when making a complaint, it helps our investigation if you can identify where the fumes or smell is coming from.
Dust
During demolition and construction works, dust is often generated which can cause a nuisance to nearby residents. As well as looking unsightly, dust can prevent people using gardens and opening their windows.
