Fingal County Council confirms sale of its waste collection business

Fingal County Council has reached agreement with Panda, for the sale of its residential and commercial waste collection service. The agreement was reached following a competitive sale process involving a number of waste management companies operating in the private sector. 

Panda will take over the service from 1st November and all Fingal County Council Waste Collection customers will continue to be provided with a full service by Panda for the remainder of 2011.  Panda has also guaranteed to freeze the annual charge and tag/lift charge at the current price for all existing Fingal County Council customers for 2012. 

Answers to frequently asked questions are provided below:

Apartments - Refuse Collection

1100L bins are provided to apartments.  A charge of €300 is payable for each 1100L bin required.  Each bin will facilitate 8-10 apartments.  Payment can be made by direct debit or by tag.  A €29 bin tag must be attached to each 1100L bin every time it is presented. If a management company opts for the direct debit option, a sticker is attached to the bin and the following charges apply:-

Apartments - Recycling Service

A recycling service is available to apartments in the Fingal area which are customers of the refuse collection service.  Each apartment complex is asked to designate a number of their existing bins as recycling bins and a collection will take place every week. 

The following items will be collected in your recycling bin:-

  • Paper
  • Light cardboard packaging
  • Clean Tetra Pak milk/juice cartons
  • Clean aluminium cans/ steel tins
  • Clean plastic bottles and containers

Please remember to rinse and flatten cartons and containers; remove lids and tops.

The following items will not be accepted in the recycling bin:-

  • Glass
  • Food or garden waste
  • Domestic waste or nappies
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Wood
  • Clothes or textiles
  • Hard plastics ( toys or flower pots)
  • Polystyrene
