Fingal County Council operates and maintains 36 cemeteries. Burial Plots can be purchased on death only,  i.e. no plots can be pre-purchased.

 Exemptions for VAT liability are –

  • The “Purchasing Back” of a plot;
  • Exhumations by Court Order
  • Plot Sales – however, any burial grounds completed since 1st July, 2010 may also, subject to certain conditions, incur a VAT liability on the price of a plot, at the time of sale, at the lower rate of VAT.  This will only affect plots in the new cemetery in Flemington and the new extension in Mulhuddart when they come on stream.

 Bereavement Grant

A Bereavement Grant is a payment based on PRSI contributions which is payable on the death of:

  • An insured person
  • The wife or husband of an insured person
  • The widow or widower of an insured person
  • A child under age 18, or under age 22 if in full-time education (where either the parent or the person the child normally lives with satisfies the PRSI contribution conditions)
  • A contributory pensioner
  • The qualified adult of a contributory pensioner, including those who would be qualified adult but are getting another social welfare payment, e.g. Carers Allowance
  • A qualified child
  • An orphan in receipt of Orphan's (Contributory) Allowance.
