During the National Spring Clean month of April each year we encourage community groups and residents associations to join in with An Taisce’s national campaign.
Green waste can no longer be removed as part of litter clean-ups. Historically all of the material would have gone to landfill, however with the introduction of the EU Landfill Regulations in July 2009, Balleally Landfill is no longer in a position to accept green waste.
This now means that all green waste must be treated in an authorised facility.
The Council’s Parks Division also has schedules in place to maintain open spaces and their own procedures for dealing with green waste from their works. This does not include the removal of shrubbery which has been cut back by residents groups who should liaise directly with Parks Division before undertaking such work.
