Where can you recycle batteries?
New Regulations have been passed on 16th July 2008 to promote the recovery of batteries and accumulators.
From the 26th September 2008, final users of waste batteries are entitled to return them free of charge, either to retail outlets selling equivalent batteries, or other authorised collection points, including local authority civic amenity sites.
No purchase is required in order to return waste batteries. This is all part of a new EU Directive on waste batteries that came into effect across the European Union on the 26th September 2008.
Two Recycling Centres in Fingal already accepted batteries free of charge before this date and will continue to do so. Please check the web page for each site to get our opening hours.
In addition to these two sites, every retail outlet selling batteries will now have to accept waste batteries of the same type as the ones they are selling. This take back is not conditioned to purchasing - i.e. you do not need to buy batteries (or other products) to return batteries to a shop selling batteries.
