Council Housing

The Housing Allocations Section deal with the allocation of Council dwellings and dwellings acquired under the Rental Accommodation Scheme.

If you are in need of housing and cannot provide housing from your own resources, you may apply to the Housing Department for housing support.

* Following assessment by the Council if you are in need of housing, your name is placed on the Council's Housing List.

* As dwellings become available for letting they are let to applicants on the Housing List (in order of priority).

* The priority by which applicants are housed is decided by a Scheme of Letting Priorities based on "Date in Need".

Transfers:

If you are a Council tenant and wish to move to another Council dwelling, you may apply for a transfer.

To be considered for a transfer:

* You must be at tenant for a minimum of  two years.
* You must have a clear rent account.
* You must have maintained your existing dwelling in good condition.
* You must not have engaged in Anti-Social Behaviour within the previous two years.

* Housing Allocations also consider applications for mutual interchange of tenancies between existing tenants of the Council with other local authority tenants.
