Fingal County Council has been to the forefront of encouraging more sustainable development through energy use efficiency, and increasing the use of renewable energy, in all new building projects in its area.
It has achieved this by:
• Encouraging responsible environmental management in construction
• Promoting sustainable approaches to housing developments by spatial planning, layout, design and detailed specification
• Encouraging high standards in energy efficiency in all housing under its remit and encouraging developers, owners and tenants to improve the environmental performance of the building stock, including the deployment of renewable energy
• Setting targets in local Area Plans and Town Master plans
The Architects’ Department has a housing scheme under construction that will be completed in 2009 that will achieve an A3 BER with one house achieving an A2 BER.
A Building Energy Rating Certificate, BER is compulsory for all homes sold or rented in the Republic of Ireland. This is a calculation of the indicative energy performance of a house or apartment. The assessment is carried out by a qualified assessor who is registered with Sustainable Energy Ireland SEI, the issuing authority.
Fingal County Council Architects Department is a registered assessor company with SEI. We have a qualified team of BER assessors who are all architectural technicians. We carry out BER assessments and issue certificates for all Fingal County Council housing stock when required.
