The Law Department is headed by the Law Agent and is the Council's in-house Solicitors office providing a complete range of legal services to the Council.  The Law Agent advises the County Manager in relation to statutory powers and duties, and on new legislation and case law.

The Law Department provides a legal advisory service to the Council's Departments in relation to all legal aspects of the Council's Statutory functions and Services Functions and also interacts and interfaces with individual members of the public, elected representatives, consultants, contractors and firms of solicitors and retained counsel.

It also deals with other Legal Services Departments in all the major public utilities and with the Courts Service, the Land Registry, the Registry of Deeds, the Revenue Commissioners, the Companies Office and other State Service Offices.
