It is estimated that 1 in 100 people are affected by the disease with the incidence rising to 1 in 10 where a first blood relative has been diagnosed. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease, those affected react abnormally when gluten is eaten. Symptoms include fatigue, mouth ulcers, stomach pain and stunted growth in children. If left untreated it can lead to more serious conditions like osteoporosis, anaemia and fertility issues. The disease can occur at any age and is a life-long condition. The only treatment is a gluten free diet
