When Fingal Libraries launched their digital services in 2012, little did we know that it would become so popular!
The introduction of these services has made the library accessible to people who for whatever reason may not have previously been able to use the service. It has given people a choice – they may choose to visit their local branch library or they may use our online services from wherever they may be once internet access is available.
We pride ourselves on having something to offer all members.
With over 2,000 eBook titles to offer, borrowers can log in using their library card number (14 digit number on barcode of library card) and PIN (ask in library). This service allows members to browse as you would if you were in your local library, you can check the new book section, the just returned section or you can select areas of interest e.g. biography and autobiography, humour, mystery and thriller or modern literature. Once you have selected a title that may be of interest, there is an option to sample the title i.e. 4/5 pages before actually borrowing it. Items that are on loan can be reserved FREE of charge and you will receive an email when the item is available. You then have 72 hours to borrow the item. Ten items can be borrowed at any one time for 21 days. Borrowers who read a lot may reduce the loan period to 14 days if necessary. All items are removed automatically from member’s cards on the due date; hence there are no late fees. Primarily, the bulk of our eBook titles are provided by Overdrive with a limited number provided by Oneclickdigital.
Oneclickdigital also provide our eAudio titles and with over 1200 titles to choose from, borrowers can download titles and transfer them to portable devices to listen to while on the move. Ten items can be borrowed at any one time and users can select the loan period of choice up to a maximum of 21 days. Items are removed automatically so no late fees are incurred and items can be reserved as with the eBooks above.
eMagazines and eNewspapers
Zinio has a selection of 21 popular magazine titles for our members to choose from. There is no limit on the number of eMagazines members can borrow. Read on your PC or download the Zinio App and read offline on your device later.
Library Press Display provides access to eNewspapers and eMagazines with over 2500 publications to choose from around the world. This facility is particularly easy to use, just log in using your library card number, select the country from which you would like to read titles and a list of those available will appear. Titles previously available on Zinio can be found on Library Press Display by clicking on the UK option. There is also a facility to listen to articles and to translate articles into different languages.
