Fingal Housebound service was launched in 2001 and since then has been visiting borrowers all over Fingal who are unable to access their local library service. The Housebound Library focuses on social inclusion and equality of access for all the citizens of Fingal.

The library delivers a service to borrowers or groups who are unable to access their local libraries – these include Nursing Homes, Day Care Centres and Hospitals, as well as borrowers with disabilities who are based in Fingal.

The library is managed by Frances Cassidy. Frances provides a personalised service and says “by getting to know the borrowers tastes and preferences, I can select and order items to suit each borrowers taste, as thought they were in a library themselves”. By using the specialised collection of stock, which includes a sizeable collection of large print and talking books, Frances can cater for all the various needs and requirements of the borrowers. Along with books, the Housebound Service also offers films on DVD and Music CDs.

Housebound books are delivered on Friday mornings, with the help of the friendly Mobile Library drivers and a designated Housebound van. Borrowers can schedule a delivery time that suits with Frances and then she will prepare the order for delivery.
