The “Great Balbriggan Bake Off 2016”  will take place on Monday 30th May 6.30-8.00pm in Balbriggan Library as part of the Balbriggan Summerfest Celebrations. The winners of each category will receive an afternoon tea voucher and the overall winner will be awarded the trophy for “Balbriggan Baker of the Year 2016”.

This is our fourth Bake- Off Contest and as you can see from the photo of previous contests, the standard is always amazing! Of course we save the best part of the Bake Off to the end – when we cut up all the bakes for everyone to taste! We’re inviting amateur bakers to enter any of the five categories: -

  • Cakes Sponges, gateaux, Swiss rolls, etc. -
  • Small Bakes Cupcakes, biscuits, brownies, scones etc. -
  • Showstopper Bakes  - Decoration is key here, pull out all the stops! -
  • Signature Bake Your tried-and-tested bakes & breads, favourite family recipes etc. -
  • Junior Baker For anyone 12 years and under – you can make anything you like!

Enthusiastic bakers can enter more than one category – and have multiple entries.  Everything is baked at home and brought to the library on the night – we don’t have any baking facilities onsite!

Think about how you want to present your bake – presentation counts for points so think about bringing a cake stand etc. Each bake you enter will be given a number on the night to keep it all anonymous for judging. The judging panel will be made up of members of the Balbriggan branch of the ICA, the North East Sugar Craft Guild, Summerfest representatives and library staff. Perhaps you now need some inspiration to get started? Why not call into your local library and check out the baking section – or check our online catalogue and reserve an item. Balbriggan Library will have a display of our favourite baking books in the run up to the Bake Off.

If you would like more information about taking part just call into Balbriggan library or email us balbrigganlibrary@fingal.ie for a Balbriggan Bake Off 2016 Factsheet which lists all the entry details. So let’s get baking! Balbriggan Library
