Fingal Local Studies Journal- Volume II. Early Fingal Entrepreneurs.
The first edition of Fingal County Libraries local history journal was launched in 2010 and was an instant success. The second edition Fingal Studies – Early Fingal Entrepreneurs is now available for sale in all Fingal Branch Libraries. The journal is edited by Joseph Byrne and contains an eclectic collection of articles on a broad range of topics.
The main theme of the journal is early entrepreneurial activity in 18th century Fingal and the efforts of landlords George Hamilton (Balbriggan) and Richard Talbot (Malahide) to improve the local economy of their respective areas. Hard work and industrious activity is also explored in an article by Cepta Butler that tells the story of the brave seamen of Loughshinny who struggled to develop a fishing-based economy in their small coastal village.
From the Normans and lack of planning permission in 12th century Portmarnock to robbery and violence in 18th century Naul, Fingal Studies has something for everyone.
So if you want to read about a very insolent Fingallian with complete lack of respect for Lord Westmeath head to your nearest Fingal library and buy a copy for only 5 euro. Or call Jacinta in Fingal Local Studies and Archives 8704495 / 087 9213945.
If you were never interested in the local history of County Dublin before, you will be now.
